For the most part, we all know when the time has come to redo or replace something in our lives. Makeup, a new job, new home… These things have “tells” we’re all accustomed to recognizing: when your makeup needs upgrading, you know because the trends are changing; when you’ve plateaued at your job, you know you will soon need to move on to push your career forward; when your family has outgrown a home, you know it because you’re practically bumping into each other on a daily basis…But, what about the less obvious redo’s or replacements that are needed? For example, when is it time to replace your window coverings? When is “the right time?”
At Blinds & Drapery Showroom, we can help you recognize the signs that the time has come to do a bit of upgrading. And, if the time has come—we’re here to help! For now, check out the four common signs that your window coverings in Springfield, PA need a redo!
- Warped or damaged slats
Warped blind slats can be a result of heat damage. This can make raising and closing them very difficult—not to mention, the bent slats make for less effectiveness in keeping the sunlight out! Further, they just don’t look good like this. Sure, if it’s just one or two slats, fixing it may be an option. But, if most or all of the slats have gone haywire, it’s time to replace. Lucky for us here in Springfield, PA, we don’t live in an arid, hot climate, so we shouldn’t have to worry about heat damage and warping blinds! - Impossible to operate
If your blinds require tremendous effort to raise, there’s an issue. In fact, there could be one or two things going on to cause this:
- The lifting mechanism could be damaged or about to break, or
- The blinds could be too wide, so the mechanism and cords simply can’t support the load.
Eventually, these hard-to-raise blinds could come down; which, would obviously be dangerous for you, your kids, or your pets. Don’t procrastinate on this—we can solve this issue a couple different ways with replacement blinds without compromising the look you want!
- Discoloration
Older blinds offered less UV protection than those on the market today. If your coverings are seriously yellowed, there’s really no fix for this—you’ll need to replace them. You should know, though, very discolored blinds can be a sign of the material deterioration. When replaced, seek out UV inhibitors or spring for fabric shades! - Safety issue for your children
Exposed cords on blinds or shades are a very serious strangulation hazard for little ones and for pets. You can keep your little loved ones protected with cordless options! Just ask our experts about your options!
So, has “the time come” to redo and replace in your home? If so, give the team here at Blinds & Drapery Showroom a call! We look forward to working with you!
