Here at Blinds & Drapery Showroom, we take customer satisfaction very seriously. After all, keeping the residents of Springfield, Havertown, Media and other neighboring cities here in Pennsylvania happy is the cornerstone of our business! But, keeping you happy means more than simply helping you shop for new window blinds and customizing to your needs. It also includes guiding you in the maintenance of your window treatments!
Once the installation is complete, the next step is to keep them well maintained. So, what can be done to keep new blinds looking new for years to come? Here are some helpful tips from our team here at B&D Showroom!
- Proper Use
Blinds are meant to be operated a certain way. There are specific handles, strings, cords, and various devices in place which allow you to open and close them. These need to be used as intended! Improper use can cause damage to your blinds. Here are some reminders:
– be gentle when pulling on cords and twisting handles!
– do not pull or twist too quickly or harshly.
– if you feel resistance, check to make sure something isn’t caught/stuck before continuing.
– keep cord string untangled.
– keep cord strings tucked away from children and pets, when possible. - Proper cleaning
Keeping your blinds in good shape includes keeping them clean! Blinds catch dust and dirt and pet hair floating around in the air very easily. Cleanliness is important. We know this is no one’s favorite task, but it is necessary, so carve out time for it. It only needs to take a few minutes at a time to avoid the need for a deep clean later! A weekly or bi-weekly light dusting keeps grime from building up and making slats or chords “stick”—which could otherwise lead to inoperability. - Keep them hanging the right way
Blinds are meant to balance and hang in just the right way: level and straight across. If you notice they are crooked—fix them. Long-term stress on one side of your window blinds can cause operational issues and bowing/bent pieces. - Wood blinds—special notes
If you have wood blinds, it is very important you keep them free from moisture so as to avoid premature deterioration. Sometimes, it is best to occasionally oil them to keep them watertight and looking good as new. Be sure to ask your B&D Showroom professional about this.
